~TCM Birthday Bash Sketch Challenge~

Sunday, March 25, 2012

I think I can squeeze in one more post tonight before hittin' the hay. (Everyone else is sleeping, I think.) We had a busy day here in Gatlinburg, TN...a beautiful, sunny day filled with walking...on trails in the park, and downtown...everyone is tuckered out! This is one quiet cabin!!! This is my second of 3 posts I'll need to squeeze in while we're here. This card is for the Birthday Bash Sketch Challenge at The Craft's Meow...

Thought I had better be sure to show you that sketch, because you might never see it in my card! This card and I had issues!! And it just didn't turn out as planned. I usually take sketches a little too literally, probably, so I feel like I broke all the rules on this one because of a variety of things that didn't go as planned...and time was too limited to start over. But hopefully, I did Little Frieda a little justice with my inks and aqua-flo pen...

...which made me really nervous...you all know I'm not a big "colorer". I had so much fun trying, though, and I think she's just the cutest thing..."Little Frieda at the Seashore". I won't even try to explain the chain of events that led to the rest of the layout...

It is bright and sunny tho, don't ya think? (The paper is a little panel from Simple Stories.) Hope you can see that sketch in there somewhere! (I had really good intentions;)
Have to keep this short and sweet tonight, I think, but if you would like to get in on the challenges, there are a few days left and you can click HERE for the details.
Thanks for checking in with me!

~TCM Birthday Bash Color Challenge~

Hello, everyone! We're snuggled up in our cabin in Gatlinburg, TN for the night (Spring Break) and I thought I would post one of the cards I created back home before we left. This one is for a pretty color challenge from The Craft's Meow's Birthday Bash...

Now the element of the eggs isn't necessarily part of the challenge, but they looked awfully sweet in that inspiration photo, so I wanted to include them in my design. I used my Papertrey egg dies, stamped them with the solid flower image from "Happines Is", and glittered one of them up...

I created a nest-y little backdrop/border for them with leaves from the same set and added a pretty little glittered butterfly from the "Friend of Mine" set...

The sentiment, "Happy Spring" is from the "Fly Free" set. The paper is a pretty new favorite from My Mind's Eye. Awfully simple card, I know...but I've been enjoying those a little more lately. I have two more cards to post for TCM Birthday Bash challenges while we're here on vacation, so stay tuned. The challenges are open until the 31st if you're interested in playing along. They've even offered free digital images in case you don't already own any from TCM so that everyone can join in the fun!

Thanks so much for stopping in!

~The Craft's Meow Birthday Theme Challenge~

My goodness, how time flies when you're gavin' fun! It's our last full day here in the mountains! (sniff, sniff) I think we must be livin' right...the weather has been perfect for us (well, it was for US, wasn't it?!?)...rain only during the night last night--sun is shining again this AM. Our boys are in heaven, as a set of brothers that are very good buddies were here at the same time and spent the night
last night! (What a way to spend our 20th anniversary! ;) Does it get better than that?...havin' your friends on vacation with you?...I don't think so. And when they're happy, mama's surely happy! OK, movin' on....I have a birthday card for The Craft's Meow Birthday Bash Theme Challenge...

I actually thought it would be for their monthly sketch challenge,...

...but it was the last one I had time for before we left, so I decided I would rather link it up with the Birthday Theme Challenge...

I used some Crate Paper and just a dab of Basic Grey (heart border), a Martha Stewart Doily, and images from TCM's, "Happiness Is" set, and "Fly Free" set...

Loved how the cheery colors came together! I had so much fun with these stamps this week (and colorin'/paintin' like a kindergartener again!) So thanks so much for coming to visit! Hope you've had a great week, too!

~Celebrating with The Craft's Meow~

Wednesday, March 21, 2012

Hello, everyone! Thanks so much for stopping in today! Have you been following along with the birthday festivities over at The Craft's Meow? Lot's of fun as they turn ~1~. And lots of sweet, sweet sets released today! My card today is for one of their birthday challenges with this photo for inspiration...

You must use TCM stamps to enter the challenges, OR...they are offering FREE digi's that can be used so that EVERYONE can play along! Now isn't THAT nice!!?! I've used one of the free images, along with a sentiment from "Fly Free", and a leaf image from "Happiness Is" to make this very clean and simple card...

I pulled the floral element from the photo, of course, and the pretty pink-y purple colors of some of the flowers. (Those colors are some of my favorites anyway!)

Anyway, you should check out their blog for all the fun details!! (The randomly drawn winners from the challenges get to design with the DT for a full month! Now, don't ya wanna come play?!)

Thanks again for stoppin' in!!
Hope you have a Beauti-full day!!

Odds ~n~ ends...

Friday, March 16, 2012

A few odds ~n~ ends to share today...several cards...all very different, and for very different occasions. I needed a "thank you" for a friend and pulled out some favorites... pretty patterns and colors from October Afternoon...
(This one goes out to Michelle. She makes me a sugar cream pie each year for my birthday. Yummy...my favorite!) Next, this month's card for the nursing home...they got to choose the sentiment to go on the pretty Happy Day frame from Papertrey...

They also got to help stamp their own background, but I found this was a little much for them and will keep it a little simpler next time.
Next was a card using some pretty K & CO die cuts...

I kept it fairly simple but liked how it came together...

Lastly, a wedding card for the grandson of my sweet neighbor. She wanted something different than what she was finding at the stores, and remembered a vintage Halloween card I made her last year. She's passing down a special heirloom as a gift, so I didn't think she would mind something with a vintage feel again...

The wedding colors are burgundy and cream, so I thought of my Simple Stories papers, and was pleased to find a sweet little panel to work up this card...

And I think that's it for today. So happy you could stop in! Hope you're enjoying a great weekend!!

Spring is on its way!!!

Monday, March 12, 2012

I've been dying to get my hands on some Spring colors, papers and images, and this weekend I had a little time while the kids were playing with friends! Yeah!!

Been wanting to try a little more tissue trim to use with it all, too! I sprayed some Tattered Angels Key Lime Pie green on it this time...such a pretty, fresh color!! I think I would scale down the size and fullness of it for cards next time, but it was too pretty to toss out! I used my Papertrey Scrambled Eggs set on these cards...

This one was just a little goofy...but FUN...

(Did your "white picket fence" dreams include pearl nail heads? ;)
And this one a little sweeter!...
And I guess that's about it!! Hope you are enjoying the anticipation of Spring, and have a great week ahead of you!! Thanks so much for visiting me today!!!
